That serves as the STEM Ecosystem for Los Angeles, bringing together education organizations (formal, informal, out-of-school, and higher education), civic, business, and industrial sectors in amplifying STEM education for children and youth in Los Angeles, especially those from marginalized or under-resourced communities, opening access to STEM learning for all.
OUR WORK
LA STEM’s Origin Story
The LA STEM Collective grew out of a task force assembled in 2019 by Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office to examine out-of-school time (OST) opportunities for the children of Los Angeles. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, members of that task force pulled together a handful of STEM education organizations to provide remote learning opportunities for LA students. By that fall, with the world still in lockdown, more than two dozen organizations joined forces to provide science education during the school day and after school.

April 6, 2024, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.The Ti’at Society will introduce “Moomat Ahiko” in a ceremonial event, shedding light on the history and importance of the first Tongva traditional “Ti’at” plank canoe constructed since the 1800s.

Join LA STEM member organization Friends of the LA River (FoLAR), the California Native Plant Society, and the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve.
