All Systems Go! Empowering Youth and Shaping the Future of STEM in Los Angeles County
LOS ANGELES, CA (2025 August 06) — As students and teachers return to school, the LA STEM Collective is marking five years of expanding access to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with All Systems Go!, a celebration on August 28, 2025, at The Beehive in South Los Angeles.
A collaborative network of 100+ Los Angeles County STEM organizations, LA STEM has reached over 200,000 students across LA County with hands-on, exciting STEM programs in classrooms and communities since 2020. Earlier this year, LA STEM launched “LA Science Explorers,” a 9-week program across 46 LAUSD schools, teaming up with 17 local STEM organizations. This program encouraged students to explore a new topic each week, from marine biology and mathematics to coding and circuits.
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Chair Pro Tem, Hilda L. Solis praised the LA STEM Collective’s impact, stating: “I am deeply grateful for the role LA STEM Collective has taken in bringing like-minded partners together to amplify STEM education for our youth, especially those in our most vulnerable communities. Their efforts have helped foster creativity among educators and community leaders, bringing innovative approaches to enlightening youth with
the wonders of STEM and the expansive opportunities available. I look forward to seeing their influence lead to brighter futures for our young Angelenos.”
All Systems Go! We will bring together educators, community leaders, and partners to celebrate this progress and look ahead to what’s next. LA STEM Collective members, including the Natural History Museums of LA County, USC Viterbi School of Engineering, Black Math Collective, LaunchBot, and many others. The event will spotlight the critical ways that the LA STEM Collective has supported the students of Los Angeles, including after-school programs and needed hands-on learning opportunities during the Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025.
“STEM education is not just about science, technology, engineering and math—it’s about equipping our young people with the tools to solve real problems, think critically, and lead with purpose,” shared Jamecca Marshall, Executive Director of LA STEM. “Our students represent the future of Los Angeles, at a time when budgets for education are under pressure, our schools, educators, and community partners are standing together to build an ecosystem that ensures every student in Los Angeles, regardless of zip code or gender, has access to quality STEM
education and career opportunities.”

Speakers include Steve Baule, Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Energy and Sustainability, and Benjamin Dickow, President and Executive Director, Columbia Memorial Space Center and Founder and Chair of the LA STEM Collective, who will share their expertise about the importance of STEM education in this critical moment, and the future of STEM in Greater Los Angeles.
“STEM benefits everyone, from all backgrounds and all ages, both in and out of the classroom. The LA STEM Collective has been able to bring all of the organizations working in STEM, from education to industry, into a productive ecosystem to begin to chart the future of STEM learning, work and experiences in LA,” reflected Ben Dickow, President and Executive Director, Columbia
Memorial Space Center and Founder and Chair of the LA STEM Collective. “Los Angeles is a leader in STEM with a huge, engaged population. What the LA STEM Collective does here will become the model for STEM across the country.”
As the official STEM Ecosystem for Los Angeles County and part of a national network, LA STEM is committed to making sure all students — no matter their zip code — have the opportunity to dream big, explore boldly, and build a future through STEM.
Together, LA STEM and our partners are helping students discover what’s possible — and shaping the future of STEM in Los Angeles County.
